Florida Marlins The Florida Marlins are a professional baseball team based in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Marlins belong to the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball's National League. They have played in Dolphin Stadium from 1993 to the present. They are nicknamed "the Fish". The club joined the National League as an expansion franchise in 1993. The Marlins are notable for winning the World Series both times they've made it into the postseason (1997, 2003), although they have never taken first place in their division and have always gone into the playoffs as a Wild Card. Despite success in the postseason, the Marlins have suffered from low attendance. The attendance problems have been blamed on the venue. Marlins ownership has pushed for a new park. After a decade of hard work and failed attempts for a stadium deal, the push paid off when Miami-Dade commissioners, City of Miami commissioners, and the team agreed to a plan to build their $525 million stadium on the site of the Orange Bowl. Florida Marlins Executives Scramble To Defend Public Funding of Ballpark Florida Marlins president David Samson has no shortage of critics these days in Miami-Dade County. He can thank Deadspin.com for his troubles.

The Pirates' financial statements were detailed Sunday by The Associated Press, and the statements of the M...
Pettitte Has 'Nothing to Say' About His Testimony on Clemens Andy Pettitte was eager to talk Friday about pitching and his health, but not about Roger Clemens, his friend and former teammate who was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges that he lied to Congress by saying he never used performance-enhancing drugs. Pettitte and his wife, Laura, supplied damaging testimony that contradicted Clemens and helped lead to the indictment. ''I've got nothing,'' Pettitte said. ''I've got nothing to say about that.''

FROM SOUTH FLORIDA; Only Winning Heat Can Attract Breezy Fans MIAMI -- In deciding to take his high-flying act to the Miami Heat to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in remaking the franchise, LeBron James needs to know that bringing another title to a city that tasted one just a few years ago will be only the beginning -- for him and all of South Florida. King James and his court will take over a town that loves winners -- and only winners -- and will reign for as long as the team competes for titles. Pound for pound, empty seat for empty seat, Miami easil...
