Colorado Rockies The Colorado Rockies are a baseball team based in Denver, Colorado. Established in 1993, the franchise plays in the West Division of the National League. The team is named after the Rocky Mountains, which pass through Colorado, just west of Denver. The Rockies play their home games at Coors Field in downtown Denver. Following multiple losing seasons, the Rockies won the National League Pennant for the first time in franchise history during the 2007 season. After previous failed attempts to bring the Major League Baseball to Colorado (most notably the Pittsburgh Pirates nearly relocating to Denver following the Pittsburgh drug trials in 1985), by the early 1990s a team seemed to be a possibility in Denver. The Colorado Baseball Commission, led by banking executive Larry Varnell, was successful in getting Denver voters to approve a 0.1 percent sales tax to help finance a new baseball stadium. Also, an advisory committee was formed in 1990 by the governor of Colorado to recruit an ownership group. Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy ejected after arguing hit-by-pitch Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy has drawn his second ejection of the season.

BATS; Arroyo Stymies Cubs, Carrying Reds to Mark Unseen Since 1999 Bronson Arroyo, in his fifth season with the Cincinnati Reds, cannot remember the last time the team has had so much depth. This much is certain: they have not been at a point like this in 11 years.
BATS; Jimenez Wins 17th, Rare Total For Rockies Ubaldo Jimenez usually baffles teams with his pitching, but his legs helped cool off the Giants. Jimenez won his major-league-leading 17th game and scored the decisive run from first base as the host Colorado Rockies beat San Francisco, 6-1, on Wednesday. The Giants had been 10-2 against the National League West since the All-Star break.
BASEBALL ROUNDUP; Strasburg Scratched, But Substitute Shines With Stephen Strasburg suddenly scratched, reliever Miguel Batista was pressed into making his first start in nearly two years, and the 39-year-old journeyman was rather Strasburglike. Batista allowed only three singles in five scoreless innings, two throwing errors hurt Atlanta's starter, Tommy Hanson, and the last-place Nationals beat the National League East-leading Braves, 3-0, Tuesday night in Washington.
Jimenez Is the First Since 2000 With 15 Wins Before the Break Ubaldo Jimenez had another dominating outing in his last start of the first half of the season. Now he's ready to take on the American League's best. Jimenez became the first pitcher in 10 years to reach 15 wins before the All-Star break, and the Colorado Rockies beat the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, 4-2, Thursday to sweep the three-game series.
BATS; Peavy's Year Appears To Be Over The Chicago White Sox right-hander Jake Peavy was put on the 15-day disabled list because of a detached muscle in the back of his right shoulder, an injury that will almost certainly end his season. ''Obviously this isn't good news,'' Peavy said Wednesday after having a magnetic resonance imaging test.
BASEBALL ROUNDUP; Rockies Load Bases Four Times After 9th, Then Win The Colorado Rockies kept loading the bases, first in the 10th inning, then in the 13th and again the next inning. And not once did they push a run across. Todd Helton finally came through, on the fourth try, when his sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the 15th inning Sunday night gave Colorado a 4-3 win over the visiting San Francisco Giants.
